Academy Choir Wins Four 1st Place Trophies at Music Festival

The West Lakes Academy student choir scooped four 1st place trophies at the 71st Whitehaven Music Festival.

The 71st annual music festival was held on Saturday 29th April at the Marchon Club, Whitehaven. Both the academy’s whole school choir and pop choir took part in four different categories and won all of them, with a huge number of parents there supporting the children.

The categories were Senior Choir (12-18), Youth Choir (under 18), Hymn Singing (12-18) and Vocal Ensemble (open age).

Music teacher, Rebecca Chesher said: ‘I am extremely proud of all of the students that took part in the Music Festival this year. In total we had 40 students take part from West Lakes Academy in both our Whole School Choir and our new Pop choir which has been running since September. I would like to thank everyone that came out to support the students on the night – it was an incredible atmosphere to be a part of!’
