Health and Social

Overview

Health and social care is taught at Key Stage 4 and Post 16. Students study the EDXCEL BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 course. Health and social care is a vocational course and it prepares students for a career in the ever growing care industry, from social care to medicine.

Students complete a variety of tasks and activities, students carry out their own investigations and enquiries and present their findings and ideas in various ways from written assignments to talks, role plays and presentations.  The course provides a broad education basis for both further and higher education.

All BTEC units are coursework based.

Key Stage 4

We offer BTEC Level 2 First Award in Health and Social Care (equivalent to 1 GCSE.) The course is designed to provide students with a range of skills and knowledge required to work in health and social care settings.  During the three year course students will study a range of core and optional units.  Three of these units are coursework based and build up to a portfolio of evidence which is assessed internally then verified by external examiners.  These units are:

• Effective Communication in Health and Social Care
• Health and Social Care Values
• The Impact of Nutrition on Health and Wellbeing

The students will also study one unit that is assessed through an external examination lasting one hour, this unit is:

• Human Lifespan Development
