The achievements of Year 13 students from West Lakes Academy have been recognised at the academy’s annual awards evening. Parents, students, teachers and governors joined together at The Whitehaven Golf Club on Thursday evening for the celebratory event which acknowledges the students who have excelled over the last two years in the academy’s sixth form.
Guests were entertained by pianist and academy student Joe Alderson and enjoyed a two course dinner before students were presented with their awards by the teachers who had nominated them.
27 awards were handed out on the evening, including accolades for services to the academy, overcoming adversity and excelling in each subject area. Notable winners from the evening include Ellie Parr who won two awards for English Language and the Principal’s award for going above and beyond during her time in the sixth form. Lee Fraser and Aimee Miller won the Heads of Year awards for demonstrating the academy’s 5 values of; respect, resilience, appreciation, freedom and achievement.
Pastoral head of sixth form, Rachel Denwood commented, “This is always a wonderful event and a lovely way to celebrate. It’s an opportunity for the students to celebrate their hard work and achievements with their parents and teachers. It was a fantastic night, the students all enjoyed themselves and it was lovely to see so many staff attend to celebrate alongside their students and to recognise their hard work and dedication.”
