Challenge Route Maps
At West Lakes Academy, we challenge and support every learner. Our Challenge route maps share our subject visions and share how we embed challenge and ambition across the curriculum. Every subject has carefully designed their curriculum to adapt to the needs of all learners and challenge all to be their best.
Non-negotiable strategies are used across the academy to challenge our learners, everyday in every lesson, such as:
• ‘Train your Brain’ starter activities or questions to engage students or recap learning
• No hands up questioning
• Teaching is adapted during lesson to stretch and challenge students, providing feedback and advice at a personal level
• Verbal feedback is given throughout lessons to further progress performance at pace
• DIRT (directed, improvement, reflection time) feedback to extend learning and progress individually.
• DIRT time provided to develop and grow from verbal feedback
• Exit tickets to inform learning, determine progress and planning for future learning
