One of the highlights of last week for me, was seeing our students take part in National Youth Theatre auditions. The National Youth Theatre accepts auditions from any student over the age of 14 and we are fortunate enough to be able to host their auditions here on site, opening up the opportunity to all of our students who want to take part. This year, 17 students auditioned. They took part in a workshop with professionals from The National Youth Theatre in the morning and performed their audition piece during the afternoon. The staff from the National Youth Theatre were very impressed with the attitude and talent of all students who took part. Students who auditioned will find out whether they have been successful in May. I have everything crossed for them!
Also last week, our Year 8 students took part in a series of workshops to mark Holocaust Memorial Day. Led by our fabulous History Department and student history ambassadors, Year 8 learnt about Jewish culture and traditions, what happened during the holocaust and why it is important that we continue to commemorate this. Look out for a fuller write-up of the day coming to you soon from our history ambassadors.
Each week the academy leadership group awards lapel badges to students who have demonstrated one of the academy’s values particularly well. This week’s value was freedom and this week’s winners were:
